PROFILE
Moez Amri holds a PhD in Biological Sciences and Plant Breeding and an HDR in Agricultural Science and Crop Production. He is an International Scientist and Professor of Genetics and Plant Breeding at Mohamed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P). He is skilled in genetics and plant breeding with a proven record in genetic enhancement of cereal and food legume crops and the development of innovative, nutrient-dense and climate-resilient varieties.
He has developed and released to farmers many high-yielding and good nutritional quality legume varieties in many countries in the MENA, SSA and CWSA regions. These varieties are largely adopted by farmers and highly recommended by seed companies. Before joining UM6P, Moez served at the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) as a legume breeder where he coordinated the research activities for the North Africa region.
He was also leading the faba bean and chickpea breeding program at the National Institute of Agricultural Research of Tunisia (INRAT) and the Regional Field Crop Research Center of Beja (CRRGC) – Tunisia. He is conducting hypothesis-driven research on priority topic for Africa with more focus on crop diversification and better integration of the Neglected Underutilized Crops and their role in building resilient agri-food systems in Africa. He is a founding member of the Forgotten Crop Society (https://www.orphancropssociety.org/) and a member of the African Plant Breeders Association Executive Committee (APBA Ex.Co).
